The demands and extremes of life these days are having an affect on our bodies as we adapt at an unprecedented pace. If you’re not feeling the stress and overload, I imagine you know others who are. A recent knee replacement surgery I had, inspired this blog and I hope it helps anyone experiencing physical challenges.
Time stops when the body is ill, traumatized, or in recovery. It requires full focus and attention, a re-set of mind and lifestyle, and internal power and fortitude. Post-recovery, I realized the most important factor in the healing process was my consciousness: “the state of being aware of one’s own existence, thoughts, feelings, and the external world”.
Our subconscious patterns of thought can create struggle, resistance, and suffering if they are fearful and judgmental. Alternately, thought patterns of compassion, acceptance, and trust create a divine cooperation that holds the greatest potential for physical healing.
Living alone, there were days when my positivity was nonexistent, and I fully gave in to tears. But rather than attempt a brave front when it became overwhelming (masking), I prayed, journaled, called my siblings or a friend, and asked for help when I needed it.
When all I could do was make it to the bathroom (usually too late, lol), I spoke words of praise out loud, noting every accomplishment in the day no matter how small. I was very loving and compassionate with my Self. I accepted the need for pain medication, spoke words of gratitude to my cells, fulfilled the directives of physical therapy, and learned the benefit of simply making small, good choices every hour of the day. It also helped to listen to guided meditations and music, and find binge-worthy shows to watch!
There were very real stresses for me in terms of lack of financial compensation and income, along with the challenge of taking care of the home and my beloved cats. But ultimately, I chose to trust my capability through the awareness of my true nature and inherent power which, for me, is the definition of spirituality. Belief in my value and having respect for our inter-connectedness, spawned a willingness to ask for and receive assistance.
In just two months, I went from the picture on the left to the one on the right, and had full mobility in my knee. My surgeon and physical therapists were amazed.

I wasn’t perfect and it wasn’t easy, but the journey reflected my liberation from the false conditioned thought-patterns of devaluing and diminishment I grew up with. And the resulting new-found intimacy with my Self (rooted in respect, love, compassion and kindness), advanced my body’s innate ability to heal. It’s just one small example of the infinite possibilities that exist for all of us as we rise into higher consciousness.
